What is important to you today?

“Christmas gives us the opportunity to pause and reflect on the important things around us – a time when we can look back on the year that has passed and prepare for the year ahead.“

David Cameron

“The two most important days in your life are the day you are born and the day you find out why.”

Mark Twain

“Calm mind brings inner strength and self confidence, so that’s very important for good health.”

Dalai Lama

I was struggling with a blog topic, so I sent out this question to friends and family – What is important to you today?  The answers were insightful and inspiring. ‘The Season’, despite diversity of practice and traditions, has us all deeply aware of family and friends and strangers. ‘The Season’ encourages our compassion, kindness and goodwill.

It is ‘the season’ that opens our hearts and our eyes and makes us keenly aware of those around us. I just hope that we all take the time to remember ourselves.  Kindness to ourselves is well deserved.  It is a time to be in touch with our own needs and wants and all that we deserve. Eckhart Tolle suggests the premise that if we take care of our inside, we can let the outside fall into place.  My point being that the compassion and care we can feel for others needs to start with ourselves. Perhaps that can be the ‘big’ gift this year!

I know I am cutting myself some slack and in doing so I find it a gift to pass on the compassion I feel for myself. I’m sure we are all busy reflecting on this past year and I for one know it has not been one of the easiest of years. But, in the spirit of ‘the season’, I am grateful to pass on my wisdom and grateful for who I am!  And my wish is for you to feel the same!
