“Sweet April showers do spring May flowers.”
~ Thomas Tusser
“Spring is when you feel like whistling even with a shoe full of slush.”
~ Doug Larson
“Earth teach me to forget myself as melted snow forgets its life. Earth teach me resignation as the leaves which die in the fall. Earth teach me courage as the tree which stands all alone. Earth teach me regeneration as the seed which rises in the spring.”
~ William Alexander
April Showers bring May Flowers. As a child I heard this version of the Tusser quote over and over and over again. I think it was my Father’s way of teaching me patience. It happened most often in the sugar bush over the sap pan or eventually in the woods surrounded by a floor of trillium blooms.
A spring snow or rain really does bring sweet rewards. I suggest that we all experience life’s showers but some of us miss the sweet rewards.
Organizations can also experience showers. When you are leading an organizational transformation, and listening to your own experience, you can bring the wisdom of patience and teach the sharing of the sweet rewards. Once again, I encourage you to embrace the symbolism of spring. Take this time to look forward through the lens of Spring and be part of shaping the future with wisdom and hope. Let your own experiences and insight guide your judgment. Don’t underestimate the power of your own experience, nor the influence of the earth around us. Take the time to listen carefully.
