“There are moments in life when keeping silent becomes a fault, and speaking an obligation. A civic duty, a moral challenge, a categorical imperative from which we cannot escape.”
~ Oriana Fallaci
“Civic engagement is very important. We all live here together and we need to look out for one another.”
~ Elizabeth Goreham
“By its very definition, civic responsibility means taking a health role in the life of one’s community.”
~ John Glenn
You do the right thing even if it makes you feel bad. The purpose of life is not to be happy but to be worthy of happiness.
~ Tracy Kidder
No better time to broach this topic. Civic Duty! Did you exercise your civic duty and vote? Both my parents exercised the ultimate civic duty, in my opinion, and joined the armed forces. They passed on that sense of duty and I was grateful for their example every day of my leadership journey. I also believe that when working for the better good, civic responsibility is far greater than duty!
It is the sense of right and wrong. It is respecting the laws of the land, respecting the rights and beliefs of others, participating in your community and staying informed. In a leadership position it is critical to understand and practice a strong sense of right and wrong – Regardless of the circumstances – And to practice a comprehensive fairness in the context of right and wrong! An organization led by a code of ethics that are equitable to everyone and driven by an ethical leader ensures a sustainable and vibrant organization.
