“I cannot always control what goes on outside. But I can always control what goes on inside.”
~ Wayne Dyer
“If you lose Self-Control everything will fall.”
~ John Wooden
“Got to lose control before you take control.”
~ Patti Smith
“Another way to lose control is to ignore something when you should address it.”
~Jim Evans
When you lose self-control as a leader the people around you lose confidence in you and they often assume you don’t care!
When a leader loses control it is often because they don’t communicate. When you don’t communicate things will catch up and they often remain unresolved. Unresolved issues also mean that the people around you make up their own truth. And that never has a good ending! Loss of control can make a leader seem fearful and less than willing to engage with thoughtful dissent and to listen to independent voices. If fear guides your self-control, then the people around you question your leadership. A slippery slop!
Never let your leadership become a doubt! Play by the same rules that you expect from everyone else! Let your leadership control mentor and model honesty, integrity and professionalism with the best intent for the organization and its people! And never apologize for the control that leadership requires, on the inside and on the outside!
