“To wish was to hope, and to hope was to expect”

I have learned that as long as I hold fast to my beliefs and values – and follow my own moral compass – then the only expectations I need to live up to are my own.
~ Michelle Obama
One of the most important things a leader can do is to establish clear expectations. And a mindful leader knows the expectations and lives by them. You can’t ask others to do what you won’t do yourself. Take time, but not too much time, to decide what and where expectations need to be clarified. Help others to understand why expectations are important and that accountability is a team responsibility. Openly discuss expectations. Nothing should ever be a secret, nor a surprise. Expectations should be a living, written document. There should never be confusion and all expectations must be fair to the success of everyone under all circumstances.
A mindful leader is honest, transparent and genuine while striving to build clear expectations. A leader leads by example while living the expectations that drive fairness, inclusiveness and positive outcomes.
