“There are realities we all share, regardless of our nationality, language, or individual tastes. As we need food, so do we need emotional nourishment: love, kindness, appreciation, and support from others.”
~ Goswami Krivananda
“Silence is the sleep that nourishes wisdom.”
~ Francis Bacon
“Be consistent in your dedication to showing your gratitude to others. Gratitude is a fuel, a medicine, and spiritual and emotional nourishment.”
~ Steve Maraboli
January seems the time of year when people jump on board ‘to be better.’ Perhaps we should consider the concept of nourishment. What does nourishment mean in all dimensions of ourselves and what does it mean to overall well-being? We can all become tired, overwhelmed and bored at times and we all need nourishment to refocus and reenergize from time to time.
A mindful leader works from the inside out by taking care of themselves. They care about their health and mental and emotional balance. That strong base fuels the ability to nourish the people around them. It’s critical for a leader to prioritize the people around them and take care of them as well as themselves. Nourishment means encouraging and supporting others to do their work effectively, and efficiently for productive outcomes. This kind of nourishment enables trust, willingness and openness.
Don’t take others for granted! Model and mentor your own nourishment and its powerful rewards. It’s not what you do, it’s how you do it. Never underestimate the nourishing power of a sincere thank you.
