“Summer is the annual permission slip to be lazy. To do nothing and have it count for something. To lie in the grass and count the stars. To sit on a branch and study the clouds.”
~ Regina Brett
“I love how summer just wraps its arms around you like a warm blanket.”
~ Kellie Elmore
“Smell the sea, and the feel the sky. Let your soul and spirit fly.”
~ Van Morrison
“There shall be eternal summer in the grateful heart.”
~ Celia Thaxter
Summer is a quieter time with numerous opportunities to think about what’s important. Wonderful things happen in the quiet. Summer and summer vacation is a welcomed pause in the day to day routine. All things slow down. Work gets quieter. Summer is thinking time. Summer gives every leader time to think big without the overwhelming feeling of every little thing. Summer is a time for every leader to quietly recognize the team and their work.
Summer is a time to encourage a steady hold on the importance of the work we do but also a time to enjoy summer and all it can offer. Summer can offer every leader the opportunity to find supportive ways to bring balance to the workplace environment. For example, establish ‘summer hours’, implement a ‘use of vacation or lose it’ policy, encourage lunch away from a desk, delegate and express trust in those around. Keep all eyes on the goals of the organization but let summer do its magic for everyone.
