“Our prime purpose in this life is to help others. And if you can’t help them, at least don’t hurt them.”
~ Dalai Lama
“Do no harm and leave the world a better place than you found it.”
~ Patricia Cornwell
“Make a habit of two things; to help; or at the least do no harm.”
~ Hippocrates
“There is no harm in repeating a good thing.”
~ Plato
The pervasiveness of intentional harm has touched too close to home. Last week a young man lost his life across the street from my home and this week such tragedy struck in the neighborhood of the BMG office. We should be horrified! At the very least I encourage all of us to take time to hear and feel the sadness of such intentional acts!
In a leadership role the responsibility of ‘no harm’ should be intentional. As a leader it is critical to accept the responsibility of the health and wellness of the workplace. As a leader we must care about the people around us.
It is a critical responsibility to practice compassion and kindness while holding accountability for the actions of others. Holding others to an approved standard is not always easy. And sometimes it is necessary to be firm to be fair. I encourage you to develop a consistent practice of accountability that you hold yourself to and can administer in a fair, equitable and effective manner. A manner that intentionally does no harm, encourages compassion and holds all standards equitably.
At BMG we hold the value of ‘no harm’ at the foundation of our work. Our prime purpose is to help others. With our experience and expertise, we plan to be part of a better world.
