“If I am not for myself, who will be for me? If I am not for others, what am I? And if not now, when?”
~ Rabbi Hillel
“What now? I just can’t figure it out. What now? I guess I’ll just wait it out. What now? Somebody tell me. What now?
~ Rihanna
I have continually asked the question, what now, in the years since my mother’s death. What now? No one wants to listen, then or now! And I stopped talking! The trauma I experienced silenced me! I know there are more stories out there! I know seniors are unsupported and alone in their fear. I know women are invisible. I know there are caregivers suffering a system empty of appropriate supports and a system full of hollow promises. I know there are grown children with terrible choices to make. I know it is a dreadful thing to make such choices and then to feel so terrible because the only choices include abysmal outcomes. I know WE all need to tell our stories. It is a place to start.
