Supreme Court Declares Indigenous Child Welfare Law Constitutional

The Supreme Court of Canada has unanimously upheld federal child welfare law “An Act respecting First Nations, Inuit and Métis children, youth and families, dismissing Quebec’s appeal in a landmark ruling affirming Indigenous peoples’ jurisdiction over child and family services.

BMG Indigenous Services has developed a unique framework to advance self-determination in family and children’s services that can easily be adapted to your community’s unique needs. We have worked with five First Nations in Ontario in facilitating their processes to develop their own Child and Family Law.
