Rachel is a Registered Social Worker and Master of Social Work for Working Professionals (MSWwp) candidate at the University of Windsor, with an Honours Bachelor of Social Work from Algoma University and a Social Service Worker diploma from Northern College. She lives and works in the rural community of Kapuskasing, Ontario, which has given her a unique lens on the importance of accessible, client-centred, and community-based services, particularly in communities where resources and supports can look very different from larger urban centres.

Rachel’s professional experience has been centred primarily in frontline and direct practice, working with a diverse range of populations, including older adults, individuals experiencing mental health and addictions concerns, individuals navigating healthcare and stroke rehabilitation, and, most recently, children, youth, and families in child and youth mental health. In Rachel’s current clinical role, she uses a trauma-informed and client-centred approach, drawing from modalities including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), and Theraplay.

Her experiences across different populations and service settings have developed a strong passion for understanding the “why” and “how” behind frontline work. Having seen firsthand how policies, organizational structures, and available resources impact the people receiving services, Rachel is interested in developing her understanding of indirect social work practice and the systems that shape frontline experiences. She brings a community-first perspective and values listening to lived experience as an essential part of creating meaningful change. Through her placement with Barnes Management Group, she is excited to build her skills in research and organizational development and explore how frontline knowledge can inform stronger programs, systems, and communities.
