BMG is saddened by the recent premeditated murder of the Afzaal family.

According to CBC News, the Muslim family identified as the victims of a hit and run on Sunday, in what police are calling a hate-motivated attack in London, Ont., were deeply involved in the community and committed to their faith, friends and family.

The victims, Salman Afzaal, 46, his wife Madiha Salman, 44, their 15-year-old daughter Yumna Afzaal and Salman Afzaal’s 74-year-old mother, Talat Afzaal, were killed after a pickup truck slammed into them as they took an evening walk. Our deepest sympathies are extended to the Afzaal family and to the broader Muslim community in London, Ontario and in Canada.

Canada, and much of the rest of the world, continues to struggle with the increasing white supremacist and Islamophobic domestic terror acts of violence. We support Muslim leaders and political leaders who are calling for a summit on Islamophobia, that was promised 3 years ago after the Quebec killings. Canada is a country that deeply believes in inclusion of people of all backgrounds, and we will not tolerate any acts of violence against any of the communities that make up Canada’s rich cultural heritage.
