“Culture eats strategy for breakfast”

“You can have all the right strategy in the world; if you don’t have the right culture, you’re dead.”

            ~ Patrick Whitesell

“Culture does not change because we desire to change it.  Culture changes when the organization is transformed; the culture reflects the realities of people working together every day.”

            ~ Francis Hesselbein

Last week the BMG blog pointed out that it is time for change.  One of the biggest changes in the Not for Profit Sector and other Sectors too is the retirement of leadership and the need to address work place culture in the realm of increased challenges and complexities and a need to find new strategies in a changing world.

The changes in the world are many!   Not just people power but the way we must manage and adapt to new people power and the new ways of the world.   A younger generation brings new leadership and if our elder wisdom does not grasp this timely opportunity to be part of the changing world an organization will not only stumble but it will fall and not get up!

Might I suggest that culture transformation is the legacy for ours to leave.   It is a lasting gesture of good will and good management.  It would be curiosity well spent to engage with the next generation of leadership and be part of a new culture of strength, sustainability, responsiveness and energy!

The shore of the Rideau affords me the nightly observance of the sunset cruise (when it is not raining).  A true mixture of past and present as the diversity of boat and generations inter-weave a strategy to co-exist.  No one argues that times have changed.   No one argues because they have been part of making it work!  It works because everyone brings their own strong suit to the traditional event that pays gratitude to the sun for another grand summer day!

In our work places, it is openness to curiosity that will lead a transformation.  And that transformation will reflect the values of people drawn together in a common cause. BMG is ready to support your transformation project.  Like the sun, those of us watching from the shores of our work life, have this opportunity to feel the gratitude for a transformation well led!
