I bring over 20 years of experience in business before making a purposeful pivot into social work, bringing with me strong skills in leadership, relationship-building, and systems thinking. I have held board and governance roles with the Back Door Mission, a low-barrier community hub supporting people who use drugs and individuals experiencing homelessness, food insecurity, social isolation, and mental health challenges. I also served as a school board trustee with the Durham District School Board, contributing to the development of the board’s first comprehensive Indigenous Education and Human Rights policies.
I am a mother and grandmother of mixed settler and Anishinaabe ancestry, currently on a journey of reconnection and reconciliation that informs my practice. Previously, I worked as a Family Service Worker with an Indigenous Child and Family Wellbeing agency, and I currently work as an Addictions Counsellor in a community-based agency, grounding my work in trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and harm-reduction-oriented approaches.
