Gathering!

Blog

“That is always our problem, not how to get control of people, but how all together we can get control of a situation.”

            ~ Mary Parker Follett

“The best way to do ourselves good is to be doing good to others; the best way to gather is to scatter.”

            ~ Alice Waters

“This is the power of gathering: it inspires us, delightfully, to be more hopeful, more joyful, more thoughtful: in a word, more alive.”

            ~ Thomas Brooks

I’m reminiscing about the old days and keenly aware of how much of life is about gathering. Regardless of the purpose, to gather, personal or professional, I am struck by the similarities and the differences all at once. Upon reflection I see the art of a gathering that builds wisdom, trust, acceptance, joy and comfort! Upon further reflection I feel the loss of gathering that provides the ability to bond, bring together family, friends, colleagues and meet new people.

We have not been able to ‘gather’ in the past year! The pause gives time to reflect on the importance of gathering and the power of what we get out of it. Before we step into gathering, after the pause, take these moments to evaluate the simple act of gathering. There are questions to ask. Will I find my voice, will I speak my truth, will I show up with honesty, will I navigate the group with grace, will I welcome differences, will I practice tolerance, will I find my place?

I encourage all of us to celebrate the pause and to gathering, when appropriate, with a new awareness and self-reflection. The reunions will be magical!
