Habits vs Routines

Blog

“We are what we repeatedly do.  Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit.”

FOOD FOR THOUGHT

A friend recently drew my attention to the notions of habit and routine.  My understanding is that a habit is a behaviour that reoccurs, while a routine is a sequence of actions regularly followed.  I have a morning and an evening routine, but I also have the habit to procrastinate.  I regularly write this blog, but I also have the habit to procrastinate.  Food for thought?

Even though I am a self-proclaimed procrastinator, (I’m very aware of my habit) my routines win out.  The positive outcomes from my morning and evening routines lessen my stress and anxiety and improve the quality of my life.  I’ve embraced routines as a regular way of doing things in a particular order and I can also acknowledge the impact of my habits.  Is a routine made of several habits?  Food for Thought?

I’ll leave you to ponder.
