“Everyone has limits. You just have to learn what your own limits are and deal with them accordingly.”

            ~Nolan Ryan

“When we have clear boundaries, we permit ourselves, respect.”

            ~ Unknown

“NO. Is a complete sentence.”

            ~ Anne Lamott

“Boundaries are a part of self-care. They are healthy, normal, and necessary.”

            ~ Doreen Virtue

Be the Leader you want your staff to be. Setting an example of good leadership includes knowing limits, personal and professional, and how to enforce them. You must respect your own personal boundaries and the boundaries of professional conduct.

In order to protect boundaries, it is important to create a structure that communicates and enforces clear expectations. Building boundaries and limits takes time and practice. Such time provides opportunities for learning and insight. Limits protect us, preserve our energy and emotions, help us to stay focused and generate happy and productive work. Clear boundaries maintain valuable productivity and a positive workplace environment.

As difficult as it may be, at times, boundaries are the cornerstone of trustworthy leadership. Boundaries are a leader’s commitment to self-care and the care of their workplace.
